JPEG IMAGES OF FINAL PDF

Description: The 3 PDF's show rendered images and research into the redesign of the Silkeborg Museum, with 2 sketchup animations on the model as the u3d file i exported from microstation had problems and the model did not appear but only a grey image. Section, site and elevation hav been made in SketchUp with different styles to the model (eg. Sketchy).
The main idea in the posters was keeping it simple and consistant with plain black background and images flowing all in the same direction (vertically) - also having the texts in columns so that it was easier on the eye.

Sketches and images

The Course of the ramps which will be cut out of the earth leading to the three different caves is a system, which was developed through several unrealised projects such as the Farum City Center and the Herning Export school.

Terrain made in SketchUp using sandbox and adding contour lines to reinforce the idea of terracing.

250 words on proposed changes

Light - Amount of sunlight being passed through the roof to create shadows to juxtapose the texture of the walls.
In redesigning the museum I intend to remove the roof and allow in as much natural light as possible with the cast of shadows made from the 3 cave rooms, the effects of the shadows of the vegetation onto the rock walls(paths) which seem to be cut out from the natural environment. Light is very important as Utzon's inspiration came from the caves in China; research on the caves gave me the idea of different amounts of shadow being passed through the rock walls, this is something that i want to capture in my images when rendering.

Natural - Keeping the theme of the "Onion Project" - the addon's will have some sort of organic feel to it, also with blending in with the environment.
Ideas which came to mind in blending the Museum into the existing environment included research on the Grand Canyon (gorges, caves, terracing) and the Hanging Gardens of Babylon ( having nature take its course and taking over the architecture) - in a way representing a lost civilisation. To help aid this lost civilisation I want the rendered images to have a sense of mysteriousness from pictures taken from different angles etc.

10 textures

All the textures will be experimented in the model mainly for the terrain and natural environment in particular, rocky surfaces and surfaces which have moss growing over it to emphasise the idea of "nature taking its course"
